Hello Auction-goers!

In our continuing effort to bring everyone the best auction experience possible, we will no longer be accepting items to the auction that are not pre-registered on our website before the show.  This is a change we have been leading up to for a long time.

How does this affect you?

For many of you this change will be pretty invisible.  Most of you already use our website and know that pre-registration makes item check-ins quicker and easier.  You know that at you can enter all your items into our system from the comfort of your home, and at your own pace.  Then you print out all your item tags, and attach them to your items.  You don’t have to do it all at once either.  You just have to make sure all your items are entered before pre-reg closes - typically the Sunday before the show.  Check the actual date here: . You can even print a list of the items you are selling for reference.  When you get to the show all you need to do is drop off your items and pay your item registration fees.  We have a waiver you can sign if you don’t want to wait around for us to scan all your items individually.  If you sort live auction lots from consignment store lots when you pack your items up, the whole item check-in process will go even faster.

Why is this important to us?

With all items being pre-registered, we will have a much better idea what kinds of items we can expect before we arrive at Gen Con.  This allows the auction staff to be better prepared for any special items, or unexpectedly large sections.  It gives us a chance to address in advance when something inappropriate for our auction is entered, or if we might have too many copies of a low value item.  Removing the data entry stations opens up equipment and staff for other tasks.  It also means that we can start working much earlier on the auction schedule.

Thanks for helping us make the auction better for everyone!

See you at Gen Con!

About Game Auctions

The first live game auction was hosted at the second Gen Con game show in 1969. Since then, there have been hundreds of live game auctions all over the world. At each auction, gamers bring in their no longer wanted games and gaming items, to be sold either at public auction, or at a fixed price in a consignment store.

Some auctions allow a “silent bidding process”, where bidders can write their bids on a piece of paper connected with an item. But the most popular auctions are ones where each item is in turn auctioned Live, with the highest bidder winning the item.

Charity segments are also popular in live game auctions. Gamers are very generous, and many auctions will allow gamers or manufacturers to donate items to a charitable cause. All or most of the funds raised by selling the donated items in the live auction are then given to the charity. Gen Con live game auction is also famous for its charity segments. You can see details about these auctions here.
